All seven volumes are in near fine condition and bound in three-quarter blue leather and cloth with raised bands, gilt decorations, marbled endpapers, gilt top edge, frontispiece engravings with tissue guards in place. The bindings of all of the volumes are strong. There are no internal markings seen. Each volume has wear at the tips, light wear at the spine extremities, and light intermittent wear along the edges. Approximately, 1000 pages per volume. Each work is separately paginated as are multi-volume works. The works include are Wilhelm Meister's Apprenticeship (Carlyle translation), Faust Parts I and II, Clavigo, Egmont, The Wayward Lover, Wilhelm Meister's Travels, The Recreations of the German Emigrants, The Sorrows of Young Werther, Elective Affinities, The Good Women, A Tale, Letters from Switzerland, Letters from Italy, Iphigenia in Tauris, Torquato Tasso, Goetz von Berlichingen, The Fellow Culprits,Truth and Fiction Relating to My Life, Poetical Works, Reynard the Fox, and The Life and Works of J.W. von Goethe by George Henry Lewes.
