Rebound with pictorial lacquered wooden boards, original paper-covered spine. All edges gilt. Floral endpapers. Text in two columns, enclosed by coloured borders. Moderately spotted throughout, mostly to front/rear leaves and title-page. Ownership signature in black ink to half-title, dated 1885. Tape mark stains to hinges. Wood mostly clean and with strong colour, some small age marks here and there. Spine toned with some minor edgewear. A good copy with an impressive, well-crafted exterior. A fascinating aesthetic marriage between the works of Shakespeare and a Japanese-inspired wooden binding. The work depicts a woman in kimono, a bird, and flowers.
