Both Charles and Mary are best known for their works on Shakespeare, and the former delivered important lectures on the Elizabethan playwright between 1834 and 1856. The present work includes the plays and sonnets of Shakespeare, as well as his poems The Lover's Complaint, The Passionate Pilgrim, and the Phoenix and the Turtle. There is evidence that a bookplate has been removed from the front pastedown. In a full red calf binding. Externally, very smart. Very lightly rubbed to the boards and the joints. The calf is lightly worn to the tail of the spine. The rear hinge is starting, but firm. Internally, firmly bound.
