no date, presumed late 1800s. Uniformly bound in brown cloth with gilt illustrations on the front covers and spines. Black and white illustrations throughout, as well as tinted plates. With an extra tinted plate loose in volume 1 (a New York scene) not called for in the contents, and an extra tinted plate in volume 10, also not called for. Constantinople, New York, Alexandria, Venice, Paris, Boston, San Francisco, Madrid, Cairo, Toronto, Calcutta, Pekin (Beijing), Jerusalem, Philadelphia, Moscow, Rome, Berlin, cities of New Zealand, many sections in volume four on Native American Indians (by region and tribes), Polynesian and other Pacific Island peoples, Australians, African races, races of India, European races, and various cities in the United Kingdom (all in volume 10). Condition ranges from GOOD to VERY GOOD condition, with minor general fading, rubbing and edgewear to the covers. Light scattered soiling. Interiors solid, with minor toning and very minor scattered soiling. One volume with a pencil doodle on a front endpaper. Volume 6 with somewhat extensive dampstaining and rippling to the cloth, with white paper residue in a few places on the covers. Covers bowed, with dampstaining along the top page edges. One plate MISSING in this volume at page 173. Slight bowing to volume 10. Bookseller Inventory # 009655
