Blue Covers with Gilt titles. Pages are Clean and Binding Good. Spine is faded, head/heel rubbed. Covers are bright, inner hinges nicely reinforced, all pages good. Protected in mylar. Illustrations: 5 Plates, 5 Whole page woodcuts, 75 woodcuts in text. This is a comprehensive study of the celestial sky encompassing the sun, the moon, the planets, constellations, comets, nebula and eclipses. The text is accompanied by beautiful illustrations and plates throughout. Color lithographs include Donati's Comet of 1858 (the first comet to be photographed), sun flares during a total eclipse, eclipse of the moon, meteor showers, various planets and the constellations seen from different parts of the world at different times during the year such as the Winter and Spring Solstices. Also found are double-page illustrations of the solar system with the orbits of the planets, a map of the heavens as seen from each hemisphere and a map of the moon's surface with an overlay showing all of its regions.
