About this Item

Oblong quarto. 76pp. Publisher's copy of the first edition. An instructional book on the creation of patterns, illustrated throughout with examples of two-, three-, and four-color patterns. The patterns themselves range from natural forms, such as flowers and insects, to geometric designs. Each page of the "lift-up book" is printed with the black & white diagram on one side of the page and the color pattern on the other side, so that when it is held to the light, the color shows through. One of author and designer Gwen White's many books on design, the best known of which is "A Book of Toys," whose penguin cover design appears in this work as an example of "wavy line" construction. This publisher's copy has "file copy" stamped to dust jacket and front free endpaper, and blue pencil notes, "file 693," to endpaper and title page. Fine in white-stamped blue cloth with pictorial endpapers, and a fine illustrated dust jacket. Bookseller Inventory # 26568
