About this title

Although referring to Townsend's The World's Most Challenging Puzzles, this quote is applicable to his entire puzzle canon. If you enjoy pitting yourself against the most challenging puzzles in existence and are a glutton for punishment, then one or all of these books are for you. Take your pick among "The World's Trickiest", "Super Brainy", "Most Perplexing", "Most Incredible", "Greatest", "Most Amazing", "Toughest", "Most Baffling", "Most Challenging", and "Best". Choose from any of the ten, or all ten, and see how you stand up against Charles Barry Townsend -- "the Professor of Perplexing Puzzles".

From School Library Journal:

Grade 5-8-- An average collection of different types of puzzles (verbal, math, matchstick, spatial, geometric, etc.) in no particular order. The black-and-white illustrations are enhanced with clip art, and the answers to each puzzle are in the back of the book. There are a couple of grammatical errors, and although several puzzles have alternate solutions, only once is there a suggestion that more than one answer may be correct. One puzzle is impossible to solve as described; the solution given does not work with the information provided. This is for an older age group than Gardner's Perplexing Puzzles and Tantalizing Teasers (S. & S., 1969; o.p.), but Gardner's collection is still the best. --JoAnn Rees, Sunnyvale Public Library, CA
