First British edition: title page states "London: Secker & Warburg: 1958" and copyright page states "first published 1958." Book is tight, square, and unmarked. Boards are clean, with sharp corners and mild bumping to tail of spine. The dust jacket is not price-clipped (original price 21s. net). Spine and corners show some chipping; edges worn, age-darkened. The original purchase receipt from the London bookseller ("since 1797") Hatchards is laid in; purchaser F.S. Maeshane seems to have been the editor of an obscure Chandler compendium.
