Type: Hardback 1900 Charles Scribner Edition in Good Condition. Volume XII of The Works of Eugene Field. Eugene Field (1850-1895) was a poet, a newspaperman and a prankster who was reportedly expelled from three colleges for his practical jokes. He wrote about the idiocies of his times, Chicago philistines, and also sentimental poetry "by the foot" and childrens' verse, such as "Wynken, Blinken, and Nod" and "Little By Blue". In original forest green cloth with bright gilt titles and decoration on front and spine. Very clean with slight wear to some extremities, faint wrinkling to cloth at upper corner, one whitish dot on front. Tight, solid and square binding. Top edge gilt. Rough cut on fore-edge and lower edge. Former owner bookplate on pastedown. Tissue guarded frontis, red letters on tissue. Damp stain on upper corner of endpapers and some pages, otherwise pages quite clean, toned. xii, 274 pages. 7.75 x 5.25 inches. 1900, Charles Scribner's Sons, New York, New York, USA.
