Book Description Richard W. Baron Publishing Company, Inc., New York City, New York, 1969. Cloth. Condition: Fine. Dust Jacket Condition: Fine. David Fenton {Photography By} (illustrator). First Thus. "For Robert Rossner, one of the teachers who founded the strike school, it was a year of radicalization. THE YEAR WITHOUT AN AUTUMN, his refreshingly subjective story, offers a microcosm of the American high school today. That story begins with the events surrounding the anti-Vietnam demonstrations of April 26, 1968. They prefigured lines of polarization that would soon be unmistakable-left against center and right, peace against war, youth against age, black and Latin poor against white middle-class. The heart of the book is a day-by-day strike journal, a disenchanted view of the autumn 1968, teachers' strike in New Yor, which the rest of the country watched with foreboding. This is the only detailed account of how the first predominantly white school was opened during the strike. It was not only a blow to union claims of solidarity, but also an exciting attempt to revive a moribund educational system. Finally, and perhaps sadly, ther author traces the end of the academic year, for life went on after the strike. The lessons learned or not learned are seen primarily through the roles of three persons: Rossner, another anti-strike teacher, and the school's principal, a man bewildered by the failure of old-fashioned liberalism." This book has 278 pages. Overall a FINE copy with FINE dustjacket of this SCARCE title. Seller Inventory # 061497
