About this Item

200 pages; color illustrated pastedown over red cloth front board, red cloth back board with colored embossed "Yamayama Series" figure; spine titles in black with color decorations; decorative endpapers; signed, inscribed and dated in year of publication by illustrator on presentation page ("For Maudie & Walter From Uncle Edgar 1909 Dear Kiddies: -- I am sure you can make a better book than this if you will only develop your talents Devotedly, Uncle Edgar"), additional decorations added in watercolor alongside inscription (green, black, and red triangles, and red triangular shape with added lines; these design elements are copies of ones repeated throughout the book); full color frontispiece, 11 additional full color plates, of which 2 are double-page spreads; many 2 and 3 color illustrations lavished on most interior pages; boards soiled and heavily scuffed, with corners bumped and cloth splitting; stray markings on front pastedown, with some missing portions, probably from tape adhered and pulled off; spine extensively taped to front and back boards; front hinge and front free endpapers taped; color plate opposite p. 94 taped in, reinforced with paper backing; tape repairs and stray marks scattered throughout leaves; all pages intact; a fair to good minus copy; this imitation of the Wizard of Oz series is noted for its angular Art Deco-styled illustration design, courtesy of Edgar Keller, who was a sheet music illustrator of the early 20th century, and who provided the art for the sheet music on which this book was based ("The Yama Yama Man").
