Book Description Crimson Printing Co., 1935, 1935. WILLOUGHBY, Malcolm F. "Yankton" Yacht and Man-of-War. Cambridge, Mass.: Crimson Printing Co., 1935. Pp 268. Illustrated. 8vo, blue cloth. The life history of this hard-used but extremely beautiful clipper-bowed steam yacht. Orinally launched in Britain as the Cleopatra, she was alleged owned briefly by Sarah Bernhardt before being sold to American owners and renamed, first Cleopatra, then Penelope. She first saw naval service during the Spanish-American War, an experience which was followed by survey work and by several circumnavigations. She was again pressed into service during the Great War, undertaking convoy escort and anti-submarine tasks, and cruising as far north as Archangel on the White Sea. Her post-war service was ignominious: after shady experience as a rum-runner she grounded and became a hulk and a swimming-pool for East Boston children. She was finally broken up in 1930. A splendid vessel, and a fit volume to memorialize her. Very slight edgewear, else vg in rubbed, nicked dj. 165.00. Seller Inventory # 31956
