About this Item

The book has the very rare original "spider web" dust jacket which is infrequently seen due to the delicate nature of the material used. 47 pages. Illustrated from photographs and golf course map. 8vo. Navy blue cloth, stamped and lettered in gilt. One of 500 copies, this copy undesignated. First Edition. Scarce and important book on this Long Island, NY, golf club. Founded in 1891, the Shinnecock Hills Golf Club was the first incorporated golf club in America and the first to have a clubhouse, the first to allow women full membership, which it did from the beginning. It was one of the founding members of the USGA in 1894. And, in 1896, the Shinnecock Hills Golf Club held the second official U.S. Open. D&M 54180; D&J G31390. One of the rarest and most sought after of all the golf club histories given the prestige of Shinnecock and the limited edition. Goodner was a long-time editor of Golf Digest.
