About this Item

136 p. This is the story of a man and his famous lemon-colored dog, and incidentally of his life, family, and career in Chicago. The author was born in Cincinnati but eventually landed in the Chicago area where he became a partner in [?] Harris Bank, which owed it beginnings to a an investment firm founded in 1882 in Chicago and which now is part of BMO Harris. He led a pleasant life in the city and on the North Shore of Lake Michigan, with hunting and fishing trips to Indiana, Missouri, and elsewhere. Sam, the dog, was legendary among his friends and colleagues-a wily and brave dog determined to overcome the implications of being "yellow." There is, for instance, a photo of Sam standing proudly on a high branch of a tree. The frontispiece is a wonderful color portrait of him. Other photos are of family members, with the dog and other dogs, of course. Octavo (8" x 5 1/2"), deep blue cloth hardcover with gilt title, near fine with light bumps at ; no dust jacket (protected in an acid-free cover); SIGNED "To U [?] S. Swartz from Albert W. Harris 1/18/1940". Bookseller Inventory # 2067AH
