new and revised edition, so stated, Redfield, New York, 1853; from the library of the linguist Glenn Gilbert with Gilbert's inscribed bookplate affixed to the front pastedown, pencilled inscription by a former owner on 2nd front free endpaper, front hinge loose although not detached, small waterstains on front cover, corners bumped, crown and heel of spine bumped and rubbed, appears to be little read, rated Fair to Good; this hard-to-find title by the Southern apologist, Simms, was the earliest Redfield Publishers imprint of Simms' novels in the 1850s; would interest collectors of Simms' work and of ante-bellum fiction in the South generally; hard covers are dark gray with decorative emblem and gold lettering on the spine; 12mo -- 19 centimeters tall; 454 numbered pages. G. Wells' The Time Machine, a novel of the 19th century pointing to a scary future, a continuing revelation to me. Triple G Books stands back of its books in every way.
