Book Description Harper & Brothers, New York & London, 1944. Hardcover. Book Condition: Very Good +. Dust Jacket Condition: Remains of DJ enclosed. From the inside cover: "In the summer of 1940, Pavel Tchelitehew began his brilliant canvas Hide and Seek, now owned by the Museum of Modern Art in New York City. However, its genesis dates back to a spring six years earlier when the artist saw and sketched a great gnarled oak tree on the estate of a friend in Sussex, England. The next year Tchelitehew peopled his tree sketch with children playing hide-andseek. Then the idea lay dormant until the autumn of 1938 when, in Weston Connecticut, he watched the leaves falling and saw them as capes hiding the forms of his riotous, playing children. The drawing that Pavel Tchelitehew made during the years of the conception of Hide and Seek make up this magnificent collection of thirty full-page pictures. The accompanying poem by Parker Tyler expresses in simple, beautifully lyric verse the poet's reactions to the pictures.". Bookseller Inventory # x1895
