About this Item

SIGNED and inscribed by translator, 297 pages, indexes, errata sheet attached to front fixed endpaper, black vinyl over boards with gilt spine title and symbols, illustrated dustjacket in Brodart protective cover. The Yi Jing is an oracle in book form. This Daoist text reveals the important elements of divinatory practice including ritual and sacrifice. Wu's commentary includes an exploration of the idea of "gaps" in time. These "gaps" are auspicious times for tritual, divination, and communication with the spirit world. Chinese ideograms are placed directly over the English words so the Western reader can easily see what each character represents. This visual pairing of ideograms and the English translation illuminates the subtle meanings of this ancient text. Top page edges lightly foxed, previous owner's ink name, jacket is lightly edge-worn and rubbed, chipped at flap folds, two closed tears under one inch. is. Bookseller Inventory # 082506009
