Pierre d'Ailly was a French theologian and cosmographer, born in 1350 in Campiegne and rising to the titles of chancellor of Notre-Dame de Paris, bishop and later cardinal of Cambrai. Imago Mundi is the collective title for a group of cosmographical and astronomical treatises, which include 16 treatises on geography and astronomy, the concordance of astrology, astronomy and theology. Only the first treatise on geography is properly IMAGO MUNDI, and it is this treatise which was published in 1930 and edited by Edmond Buron. This study made use of Ptolemy's GEOGRAPHY and was closely studied by Christopher Columbus. This present text was published with Columbus' marginal notes included and is fully illustrated. This edition won the Grand Prix Annuel 1932 de l'Academie de Marine and the Medaille d'Or 1932 de la Societe de Geographie de Paris. Combined 828pp Size: 4to - over 9¾" - 12" tall.
