About this Item

Blue cloth with gilt titles. Edge, corner and surface wear with an old dampstain on the front, top right corner which does not seem to affect the interior. Book is square and binding has no tears or parting. Gift inscription on ffep. ; 12mo 7" - 7½" tall; 101 pages; This is the first volume of poetry by former Georgia Poet Laureate, Ernest Neal. Neal, from Calhoun, wrote one other book, A Second Book of Verse. His themes tend to relate to North Georgia and Indians. Relatively difficult book to find. While he was still Georgia's Poet Laureate, Neal became destitute and wound up in the Fulton County home for the poor. When the Atlanta newspaper's publicized this fact, Gov. Eugene Talmadge, gave Neal a salary/job, along with an office in the Capitol. (just a bit of trivia. ). Bookseller Inventory # 12987
