About this title

Synopsis:

Yves Clerc was born on November 5, 1947. His first excursion into the world of the image was by way of photography. This was followed from 1967-1973 by the joint pursuit of studies in science and an artistic training, in which he specialized in drawing. He published his first illustrations in the medical press at this time. In the same period he delivered the theatrical world, taking part in the Nancy theatre festival which had a decisive influence on his choice of themes. From 1974-1976 Yves Clerc followed classes at the School of Applied Arts in Paris and condinued to produce illustrations for various magazines (Pariscope Autrement). Staying faithful to his double vocation, in 1978 he embarked on post-graduate studies at the University of Paris VII, which he finished in 1981. After this period of maturation he finally tackled painting. He then spent a further three years developing and mastering pictorial techniques at the studio of a teaching artist, and very soon began to exhibit his works at salons in France and elsewhere. Since then, his research into expressive means has led him to place the emphasis on matter, modeling and light, and to distort the realities of space, form and colour in order to signify, and sublimate, representation.
