About this Item

1st Printing. 76 pages. Published in 2003. Collection of photographs. The first and only edition. Published in a small and limited print run as a hardcover original only. The First Edition is now scarce. An austerely elegant production by Juergen Teller and FUEL: Oversize-volume format. White cloth boards with photographic reproduction pasted in front and titles embossed on spine, as issued. Photographs by Juergen Teller. There is no text. Printed on glossy stock paper in Gottingen, Germany to the highest standards. In pristine-white DJ with black titles printed on the cover and spine, as issued. Presents Jurgen Teller's impossibly long-titled collection. A triumphant achievement. "The Teller family business produces small parts for string instruments. Juergen Teller has taken photographs of company employees, his uncle, and his uncle's collection of hunting trophies. He has also shot pictures in dripstone caves, of Kate Moss during her pregnancy, and of himself. In the world of Juergen Teller, it somehow all fits together. 'Werkstatt', a studio or creative environment, collects, as Juergen Teller does, people and places. It combines scenes from the world he grew up in with selections from the world of beautiful images that he travels in today. Candid, subjective, and completely without superficial effect, Teller offers a peek or two into his world" (Publisher's blurb). It is unlikely then that he asked his uncle's permission to take his self-portraits, which are all full-frontal nudes. Teller's apparent self-image as a sex symbol (a sly dig at Mapplethorpe) is touching, if that's the right word, because he is not, as sex symbols go, a prize trophy. An absolute "must-have" title for Juergen Teller collectors. This title is now collectible. This is one of very few copies of the First Hardcover Edition/First Printing still available online and is in especially fine condition: Clean, crisp, and bright, a pristine beauty. A rare copy thus. 36 color, 11 duotone plates. Juergen Teller's "Tracht" was selected as one of the greatest photography books in "The Photobook". One of the most brilliant photographers of our time. A fine copy. (SEE ALSO OTHER JUERGEN TELLER TITLES IN OUR CATALOG) ISBN 3882438991. Bookseller Inventory # 14498

About this title

Synopsis:

The Teller family business produces small parts for string instruments. Juergen Teller has taken photographs of company employees, his uncle and his uncle's collection of hunting trophies. He has also shot pictures in dripstone caves, of Kate Moss during her pregnancy and of himself. In the world of Juergen Teller, it somehow all fits together. Werkstatt--a studio or creative environment--collects, as Juergen Teller does, people and places. It combines scenes from the world he grew up in with selections from the world of beautiful images that he travels in today. Candid, subjective and completely without superficial affect, Teller offers a peek or two into his world. How it all fits together is left up to the viewer.
