231 pages with diagrams, tables and plates. Royal octavo (9 3/4" x 6 1/2") bound in original beige cloth with black lettering to label and cover with green chess board like diagram. Additional commentary by T D vanScheltinga, B J Withuis, H J J Slavekoorde and E J Diemer. Photographs by R Teschner. First edition. Eighteen players vied for the top spot in the Zonal Tournament played in Wageningen October 26 through November 27 1957. The top spots were highly contested with László Szabó, representing Hungary, capturing first with 13 1/2/17. A close second was Friðrik Ólafsson from Iceland with a score of 13. Third through fourth was a tie with Johannes Hendrikus (Hein) Donner, from Holland, and Jørgen Bent Larsen, form Denmark, with scores of 12 1/2. In sole sixth place with 12 points was Wolfgang Uhlmann from Germany with 12 points. Tied for sixth and seventh was Gideon Ståhlberg, the Swedish contingent and Petar Trifunovi¿, representing Yugoslavia, each with scores of 11. Eighth place went to Rudolf Teschner, another German with 9 points. Ninth was taken by Borislav Ivkov form Yugoslavia with a score of 8. Szabo went on to the Candidates.
