*1st printing of the 1926 Putnam: square, solid, bright inside.* Ex-library with a tired but reasonably attractive exterior: some fading and some edgwear. The interior is really quite pleasant. No dustjacket (as issued?) Cloth over boards; 167 pp. 7 full page color illustrations; decorative chapter headings in b&w. The Nusbaum & Finnan collaboration on Zuni Indian Tales derives from Nusbaum's intimate and sustained exposure to Zuni culture in the 1920's. While her husband worked as an archeaologist on the Hawikuh site, she became fascinated by Zuni culture. Indeed, her young son was formerly inducted into the tribe. Though designed as tales "retold for children," the mythology is presented with authority.
