2 works in 1. 8vo. 112; [ii], 22 pp. Contemporary calf, joints starting, corners worn; second work somewhat browned. In 1713, Aaron Hill (1685-1750) had obtained a patent for extracting oil from the fruit of the Beech tree (Fagus). In this pamphlet he tries to raise funds by selling shares of his company with a grandiose scheme of making the oil to supply soap and clothing manufacturers throughout the world, promising wealth and the glory of the nation. Hill is better known as a playwright who supplied G.F. Handel with librettos for some of his operas. Bookseller Inventory #
