About this Item

First American edition. Published by Cobbett's political enemy Binns, editor of the Philadelphia newspaper the Democratic Press, in order to embarrass Cobbett. Binns prefaces this publication with these words: "The defeat of James Ross, the dismissal of Timothy Pickering and the explosion of the Junto of Cobbett and his conspirators in 1799 and 1800, drove the British Emissary Cobbett howling back to London. He there published, under his signature . . . the following account of his Nefarious mission and of his aiders, abettors and supporters." Binns ends the pamphlet with "Lend this to your neighbour as the Confession of a TORY." 8vo. 16 pp. Shaw & Shoemaker 25104. Folded and never bound; uncut and partially unopened. Upper inner corner of all pages gnawed by a rodent. Stamp in inner margin of p. 3. Bookseller Inventory # 107
