Jacob Matthias Schmutzer / Schmuzer (1733-1811) was an Austrian designer and engraver from Vienna. He was the son of the engraver Andreas Schmutzer. He trained under Raphael Donner and in Paris with Wille. He and later worked in Vienna and became the director of the Academy founded by Maria-Theresia. Condition: Good, given age. Margins cropped close to or just over the platemark. Remains of glue on rear. Few small tears in paper edges. General age-related toning and/or occasional minor defects from handling.
