'LA CHALOTAIS.'Portrait of Louis-Rene de Caradeuc de La Chalotais (1701-1785) in the clouds. He was a French jurist who is primarily remembered for his role on the so-called 'Brittany Affair', in which the Breton Parlement resisted the authority of the French monarchy over an issue of taxation. The affair has been seen as a precursor of the French Revolution.Made by after an anonymous artist.Medium: Collotype on wove (vellin) paper.Sheet size: 21 x 28 cm (8.27 x 11.02 inch). He was a French magistrate and historian. On June 18, 1841, he participated in a meeting with Gaston Romieux that led to the constitution of the Society of Friends of the Arts of La Rochelle, of which Massiou was the first president. We did not find other art work by this person. We did find a lithograph by Langlois published in a work by Chalotais in 1826.RB-1114. Condition: good, given age. With printed passe partout. Drawing creases. General age-related toning and/or occasional minor defects from handling. Please study scan carefully. Seller Inventory # RB-2121
