This series of 263 bird prints in 9 volumes is part of the large 38 volume: ‘Histoire naturelle, generale et particuliere … nouvelle ed., published by J. Schneider 1766-1799.Made by 'Abraham Jacobsz Hulk' after 'Jacques de Seve'. Abraham Jacobsz Hulk (1751-c.1817), engraver. Georges-Louis Le Clerc, Comte de Buffon (September 7, 1707 - April 16, 1788). French naturalist, mathematician, biologist, cosmologist and author. Buffon's views influenced the next two generations of naturalists, including Jean-Baptiste Lamarck and Charles Darwin. Jacques de Seve (active 1744-1788), artist.Condition: Very good, given age. General age-related toning and/or occasional minor defects from handling. Pictura Prints offers mostly antique prints, art, maps and books. Since 2004 the owner Peter Cornelissen started Theprintscollector and has been in business as a print and book seller. In 2018 he decided to further develop his personal collection through 'Pictura Prints'. Peter has a background in design and landscape architecture and holds a degree in paper restauration. He holds shop in Overasselt, a small town on the Maas river near Nijmegen, The Netherlands, which can be visited by appointment. He is a member of the Dutch Association of Antiquarians (NVVA) and the International League of Antiquarian Booksellers (ILAB).
