This original antique map is taken from: 'Theatrum Europaeum.', by Matthaus Merian. Theatrum Europaeum was a journal on the history of the German-speaking lands by Matthaus Merian, published between 1633 and 1738 in 21 quarto volumes. engraving / etching on hand laid (verge) paper. Made by 'Caspar Merian' after an anonymous artist. Caspar Merian (1627-1686) was one of the most important German topographical engravers and publishers in the Baroque period. Very good, given age. Original fold, as issued. Soft vertical creases in print, along the middle fold and in the left margin. General age-related toning and/or occasional minor defects from handling.
