Add to basketAntique print, titled: 'Le repos du berger.' - Le Repos du Berger. (The shepherd / herdsman resting.) It shows a mountainous scene with numerous cattle. In the middle is a woman on her knees, milking a goat, while a man lies on the ground nearby. In the opening to a cave beneath a steep rock face are two asses. A river runs through the middle of the image, round the base of a high cliff, the summit of which is crowned with various buildings. Engraving on hand laid paper. Watermark: Large eagle. Description: The original painting was made in 1646. State: Probably second state of 2. Ref: Le Bl. 44. This impression has the adress of Louis Crepy, who was active between 1727 and 1790. He probably obtained this plate from Charpentier.Artists and Engravers: Made by 'Francois Philippe Charpentier' after 'Nicolaes Berchem'. Francois Philippe Charpentier (1734-1817) was a French engraver. He is the inventor of a technique similar to aquatint. Nicolaes Berchem (1620-1683) was one of the most famous animalpainters of the 17th. Century. His work was highly admired and collected. Condition: Good, given age. Thread margins, some old folds.
