The scarves of two figures in the bakground blow high into the sky. Etching on hand laid paper. Description: From "Leerzame Zinnebeelden" by Adriaan Spinneker, probably a 1757 edition. Ref: Landwehr, Emblem & Fable books Low Countries 760; Landwehr, Dutch Emblem books (1962), 217; NNBW 4, cols. 1260-2.Artists and Engravers: Made by 'Vincent van der Vinne Jr.' after 'Adriaan Spinneker'. Most of the refined plates are by painter and etcher Vincent van der Vinne Jr (1686-1742), although J.C. Philips is given as the etcher of 4 plates in the second part of this book. The author of this work is Adriaan Spinniker (Groningen 1676-1754 Haarlem). He was a preacher with the doopsgezinde gemeente in Amsterdam. He is known for his poetry. Condition: Very good, given age. Margins cropped close to the platemark and a little soiled. General age-related toning and/or occasional minor defects from handling. Please study scan carefully.
