Antique print, titled: 'Aanmerkingen over het nemen van proeven met modellen van werktuigen in het algemeen, en verslag van de zoodanigen, als in het bijzonder genomen zijn met een model van den toestel, door welken de schutsluizen de belangrijke eigenschap kunnen verkrijgen, dat, bij de doorschutting, het schutwater voor een groot gedeelte weder op den boven boezem te rug gevoerd wordt.' - (Remarks on tests with models for the improvement of sluices, to lift the water for the most part to the higher side of the sluice.) Set complete with 100 pages of text, 2 plates and 2 tables. The 2 plates show cross sections of sluices. (Briefing of the activities of the Royal Dutch Royal Society od science, literature and art in Amsterdam.) Engraving on hand laid (verge type with chainlines) paper. Watermark: van de Ley, coat of arms with initials VDL and the personification of fortitude. Made by 'v.d. Meulen' after 'A.F. Goudriaan'. Pieter Hermanus Luitjes van der Meulen (Leeuwarden; 1780-c.1850) was a Dutch etcher/engraver. Adrianus Franciscus Goudriaan (1768-1829) was Inspector-General of Waterworks under King Willem I in the Netherlands. Good, given age. Set is the complete loose section from an annually published briefing. Plates with original folds as issued. Images show front page and the 2 plates. Size given is the size of the first plate.
