Medieval Glamis Castle Scotland 1880 Color Print " FO Morris antique prints colored engravings circa 1880 ANTIQUE COLOR PRINT Title: GLAMIS CASTLE Approximate Image Size: 5 X 7 1/2 inches Approximate Overall Size: 8 X 10 1/2 inches Brilliant color print. Printed and engraved by by B. Fawcett, Driffield. This beautiful attractive colour plate originates from and is one of a Series of Picturesque Views of Seats of The Noblemen and Gentlemen of Great Britian and Ireland as presented by F. O. Morris. A greater proportion of the drawings which originated from the publication were by Alexander F. Lydon, and printed from coloured wood-blocks using the Baxter process by Benjamin Fawcett. Published by William Mackenzie, Ludgate Hill, Edinburgh and Dublin CONDITION: Excellent Condition. The colors are brilliant, rich and bright. Reverse side is blank and printed on heavier quality paper. Image protection watermark is not on actual print. Excerpt from the old descriptive: NEAR FORFAR, FORFARSHIRE. - EARL OF STRATHMORE. This ancient castle is one of the most venerable edifices in Scotland. The central tower is ascended by a staircase of one hundred and forty-three steps; on the left of it is a vaulted stone hall, .- Great alterations were made in this grand old building by Patrick, first Earl of Kinghorne, in 1606. - The Pretender slept here in 1715, and had eighty beds made up for himself and his followers. - John de Lyon, feudal Baron of Forteviot, secretary to Robert II., had, from the king, a grant of the lordship of Glamis in 1371. His son, Sir John de Lyon, Great Chamberlain of Scotland, married Lady Jane Stewart second daughter of King Robert II., with whom he acquired the Barony of Kinghorne. He was slain by. The shipping cost also include all packaging and handling which is done with the utmost care. We use foamcore for added protection. We sometimes use very sturdy tubes to ship the larger prints. There are times when we need to requote shipping as we offer combined shipping charges for multiple items. If you have any questions, emails are welcome. Rest assured we try to get your order to you as quickly as possible.
