Add to basketAntique print, titled: '6.' - Plate 6 depicts part of a procession as part of a court festival / carnival (see source description). 14 (continuation of plate 5.) with a timpani player on horseback, followed by 12 trumpet players on horeseback, followed by 12 Roman soldiers on horseback carrying trophies. A copy of the original description in German is included. From: 'Heidnischer Gotter und Gottinnen prachtiger Auffzug, anno 1695. gehalten in Dresden.', by Martin Klotzel, published in Dresden by Martin Riedel in 1696. A second ed. was published in Augsburg by Jeremias Wolff in 1718. This work contains 20 plates depicting the floats, decorations and masquerades in this processsion held on February 7th 1695 in Dresden for the Emperor Friederich August / Augustus II 'The Strong' (1670-1733). In this procession 'August the Strong' rides on horseback as Mercury in the first of 11 groups/floats and is followed by the pantheon of antiquity: Juno, Saturnus, Mars, Neptune, Bacchus, Ceres, Apollo, Athena, Pan, Vulkan, Venus, Diana etc. This famous procession was the first held at the Dresden court. This print originates from the first ed. Very rare! Ref: Berlin 2865 Etching / engraving on handlaid (verge type with chainlines) paper. Watermark: We found several watermarks in the sheets originating from thr originating work: Fragments of large lettering, a Rampant Lion in double circle, Unicorn with countermark (not visible on every sheet; German paper, probably from the Augsburg-Nurnberg region). Made by 'Martin Klotzel' after own design. Martin Klotzel (d.1699) was a German painter and theatre designer. Very good, given age. Original folds from binding. Printed from 2 plates on 2 sheets of paper attached. Paper edges with some chipping. Rear with minimal thin paper spot. Small hole, backed. General age-related toning and/or occasional minor defects from handling. Please study scan carefully. The overall size is ca. 72.5 x 26 cm. The image size is ca. 68.5 x 22 cm.
