Ficus sycomorus / sycamore fig, tamarind, balsam, baobab tree. Extremely rare in this edition. This plate originates from the very scarse: 'La galerie agreable du monde (.). Tome premier des d'Afrique.', published by P. van der Aa, Leyden, c. 1725. This famous work was published in 66 parts and is the biggest print / map book ever published. Van der Aa incorporated plates by other publishers such as Blaeu, Visscher, de Wit, meurs, Halma, Mortier, Allard in this work and often added broad decorative borders. Probably the costliest and complete universal geographic work ever produced. It is said that only 100 copies were printed. Ref: Koeman Aa9. Phillips 2780 note. This plate was first published in 'Naukeurige Beschrijvingen der Afrikaensche gewesten (.).', and 'Naukeurige beschrijvinge der Afrikaensche eylanden (.).', by Olfert Dapper (1639 - 1689). Pictura Prints offers mostly antique prints, art, maps and books. Since 2004 the owner Peter Cornelissen started Theprintscollector and has been in business as a print and book seller. In 2018 he decided to further develop his personal collection through 'Pictura Prints'. Peter has a background in design and landscape architecture and holds a degree in paper restauration. He holds shop in Overasselt, a small town on the Maas river near Nijmegen, The Netherlands, which can be visited by appointment. He is a member of the Dutch Association of Antiquarians (NVVA) and the International League of Antiquarian Booksellers (ILAB).

We ship worldwide and package our items meticulously. We carry an umbrella insurance policy. Our shipment rates are based on shipments up to 1 kg. For heavier shipments we will contact you with a quote. Currently our surcharge for international shipments over 1 kg is 9,14 euro / kg. In addition POST NL temporarly charges 3,60 euro per kg due to CORONA related logistics. We ship by registered mail through POST NL.
