A Chinese Cultural Revolution poster in colour depicting a very large number of the ??? [Little Red Guards] and PLA soldiers crowding the riverbank. Four of the children are in the choppy water about to begin their swim armed with ring buoy and inflatable ball, in the background it can be seen that many PLA soldiers are already already in the water. A PLA soldier is about to give the start signal to the girl with a trumpet by checking his watch. A girl in red checkered shirt is holding forward the red flag of the Little Red Guard in the centre. Huge propaganda cardboards with Chinese text "Follow Chairman Mao's Lead" under a steel bridge no doubt referring to Chairman Mao's historic and hugely successful publicity stunt when he swam across the Yangtze in July 1966. Very good. Text in Chinese and English lower margin. Poster measures 56.1 x 76.7cm The title comes from the lyrics of the very famous Cultural Revolution song "Battle Song of the Red Guards".
