Jennifer Hockenbery Dragseth

Dr. Jennifer Hockenbery is a philosopher who is interested especially in the nature and possibility of philosophy and of knowing truths through the use of empiricism, reason, and dialogue. To that end her most recent book, Wisdom's Friendly Heart: Augustinian Hope for Skeptics and Conspiracy Theorists explores the possibility for philosophy in the 21st century using the ideas of African philosopher and theologian, Augustine. Her works also include an edited volume on the teaching of philosophy, Just in Time: Moments in Teaching Philosophy, a festschrift for James Conlon. In addition, she is the author of Thinking Woman: A Philosophical Approach to Gender, a book that uses philosophical analysis of women philosophers to start conversations among readers about the nature and vocation of women and the best way for feminists to advocate for women. In 2011, she edited The Devil's Whore: Reason and Philosophy in the Lutheran Tradition which is of interest to those who would like to understand the influence of Luther and Lutheranism on Western Philosophy after 1517. She is currently the Dean of Humanities at St. Norbert College.
