About this Item

Irish BCP: Dublin edition from a prominent printing dynasty, here with "A New Version of the Psalms." This 1807 issue is particularly uncommon, with only one U.S. and one U.K. institution reporting holdings. Provenance: Front fly-leaf with inked inscription of William Johnston, dated 1808, with subsequent later additions; outer (closed) edges with inked inscription of Charles Johnston, dated 1823; pastedowns, endpapers, and some pages with additional Johnston inscriptions. 12mo. [158], [54] ff. Griffiths, Bibliography of the Book of Common Prayer, 1807/15; NSTC L1854. Contemporary leather covered over with paper some time ago; original leather much cracked and abraded, paper darkened, chipped, and torn. Front hinge (inside) cracked; text block starting to pull away from spine, with front fly-leaf separated and early leaves loosening. Pages lightly age-toned with occasional faint stains; a few pages trimmed very closely. Two dried flowers laid in. A much-loved, much-used copy. Bookseller Inventory # 27530
