Laible war Schüler von Georg Scholz und Walter Conz an der Badischen Landeskunstschule in Karlsruhe, danach Schüler von Ernst Würtenberger. Nach dem Zweiten Weltkrieg gründete er zusammen mit Karl Hubbuch u.a. die Künstlergruppe "Der Kreis". Seit 1947 war er Leiter der Zeichenklasse, ab 1949 Professor an der Karlsruher Kunstakademie.
