The only English is in the title page, which has a line in Hebrew and the rest in Marathi. Hebrew, square type pointed. With 9 pages of illustrations, including depictions of the preparation of matzot, and the Passover Seder according to the rite of the Bnai Yisrael of Poona. The woodcut illustrations depict the order of the Haggadah as it was arranged by the Bnai Israel of Poona, the second largest urban community of the Bene Israel in India, where this edition of the Haggadah, with Marathi translation appeared. It was "prepared and published by Moses Jacob talker and Aaron David Talkar according to the Shulhan Arukh and the Hggadah published with Marathi by Rabbi Hayyeem Joseph Haleguva and Hayeem Isaac Galsulker. At Vital Sakharam Agnihorty?s Press." Among the unique and striking features of this haggadah are the 9 pages of large illustrations. While the illustrations in the Bombay Haggadah of 1846 were similar to those of the Amsterdam Haggadah, those in the Poona Haggadah are very Indian. They are: 1. A depiction of the preparation and baking of the matzah. The women are dressed in saris and their hair is adorned in flowers. Some of the men and women are seated in the classic Indian squatting, or Lotus position. 2. The Seder dish. 3. to 13. Illustrations depicting the stages of the seder. Each has the Hebrew word caption, Kadesh, Urekhatz, etc. with an explanation in Marathi. Browning, as in all copies, and very little staining. a few small tears that can be closed. "Prepared and published by Moses Jacob Talker & Aaron Daniel Talker (brothers) according to the Shulhan Arukh and the Haggadah published with Marathi by the Rabbi Hayyeem Joseph Heleguva & Hayeem Isaac Galsulker" - Yaari 1077. Pagination as in Yudlov: 2, [9] leaves. [1], 5-50, 5-44, 5 pages. In modern slipcase.
