The Mukadimah, Prolegomena to History was written originally in Arabic by Abed al Rakhman Ibn Khaldun and translated by Immanuel Koplewitz. The Tunisian Ibn Khaldun (1332-1406) was a historiographer and historian, who became famous mainly through this book "Mukadimah" (Introduction). The book describes the history of humankind, with a special focus on the history the Berber and Maghreb peoples, which until today is of great interest to historians, because it is based on the personal knowledge of Ibn Khaldun of the people of the Berber. With this book Ibn Khaldun did not only influenced historians of the Ottoman Empire, but also European scholars who considered him to be one of the most important Muslim philosophers. "Mukadima" not only made him a well known scholar, it became one of the most influential books and impacted our modern sociology, economics and historiography. Originally the book was divided up into seven books, which were transformed into chapters by the Hebrew translator. Besides the historic approach, Ibn Khaldun deals with politics, culture, knowledge and economics, based on his central concept of "group solidarity", which can be largely impacted by religion or ideologies.
