Book First Edition
Hardcover. Condition: Fine. Dust Jacket Condition: Fine. 1st Edition. Gilt lettering on black textured boards in a red & black pictorial dust jacket. Yellow bookmark ribbon. 9-1/2" x 12-1/2", 286pp. This is a photographic record of the war in Kuwait. The book is filled with full color photographs and text both in English and Arabic. "When Kuwait businessman, Adel Al Yousifi arrived in his country in March, 1991, after the end of the Gulf War, he returned to a desolate land of dark, smoky skies, grimy fallout from the oil fires, and scenes of vandalism and destruction. His first concern was to check on family and friends to find out how they had fared during the seven long, horrifying months of the Iraqi occupation, but in the days that followed, as he drove around the ravaged city and thought about the destruction he'd seen along the road, driving through southern Kuwait from Saudi Arabia, he felt compelled to record the somber images he saw. Long a keen photographer, Adel had been working as a volunteer photographer for the Citizens for a Free Kuwait campaign in London during the Iraqi occupation. Back in his liberated homeland his hobby took on new significance. He began making an intensive photographic documentary of post war Kuwait, an effort which was to result in a collection of some 15,000 pictures." He said that "Human beings are forgetful by nature. I wanted to make sure these scenes of destruction were recorded for the future.".
