Each volume is an 8vo (9-3/4" tall x 5-3/4") hardcover w/ pages--approximately 2400 in all--that are rough cut on the fore and bottom edge and have gold teg. Profuse w/ b&w & color illustrations, maps, etc. Blue cloth boards & binding w/ gold gilt lettering & trim on front & spine. Each volume is lightly rubbed and has very light edge wear at the spine head and tail and in corner tips. Pencil name & date on blue endpapers, but the contents are otherwise clean, firmly bound and only slightly age-tanned. Vol. 1 includes the only reference to this set as a fourth edition. Vol. 3 includes an unredeemed coupon (#1.6062) enttitling the advance subscriber to obtain a supplementary monograph detailing the proofs of charges of atrocities offered by various belligerent goverments.
