    Framed. Condition: g to vg. Original photograph. A three-part panoramic albumen print of the ruins of the Temple of Saturn* (Roman Forum, Rome), mounted on board and framed in a contemporary oak frame. The splendid image was made in 1887, and is attributed to Italian photographer Domenico Anderson (1854-1938).** A similar won the Silver Medal at the Chicago Convention in the same year (1887). The three individual prints measure app. 20 1/2 x 29 1/2" (ca 52 x 74,5 cm) each, and the mount: 37 1/4 x 69 1/4" (94,5 x 175,5 cm). The entire tryptic measures 29 1/2 x 61 3/4" (ca 74,5 x 157 cm). The oak frame measures: 48 1/4 x 80" (122,5 x 203 cm). Light and sporadic rubbing along edges of oak frame. Some soiling to mount at verso. Age-toning and sporadic foxing to the first and third print. Frame in overall good+, albumen prints in good to very good condition. * The 4th century CE Temple of Saturn is situated in the north west corner of the Roman Forum of Rome and has eight majestic columns still standing. Built in honor of Saturn it was the focal point of an ancient cult and stood on the site of the original temple dedicated in c. 497 BCE by the dictator Titus Tatius, which itself had replaced the god's first shrine, the Ara Saturni. **Domenico Anderson (1854-1938) was an Italian photographer, the son of the photography pioneer James Anderson (1813-1877), from whom he inherited and continued the work in Rome. After his death, his archive was acquired by the Fratelli Alinari in Florence. Domenico Anderson is particularly known for his photographs of monumental architecture, Roman antiquities, church interiors, and religious art.
