Oriana Papazoglou (1951-2019) was most famous for the two-time Edgar Award nominated mystery series written under her most-used pen name Jane Haddam, featuring former FBI agent Gregor Demarkian. Only two suspense mysteries were written under the name of Ann Paris, this one featuring an American young woman who is invited by a notorious uncle to a house party of the rich and famous at his medieval chateau in France. Danger lurks as the party becomes isolated and snowbound--and guests keep disappearing. Crisp. Just a hint of rubs to the upper and lower spine edges and corner tips, short, mild binding wrinkle to the spine, else very tight in glossy color illustrated stiff-card wraps with cover art by Morgan Kane, all page edges yellow; original printed $3.95 price and code 63838-6 still intact to the front cover and to the spine. A very scarce mystery.

Caresse Crosby, with her flamboyant husband Harry Crosby, were a fiery couple in Paris in the Twenties--important members of the avant-garde community of expatriates. The couple launched the Black Sun Press while in Paris and published early works by Hemingway, Fitzgerald, D.H. Lawrence, Ezra Pound, and James Joyce. Among her many accomplishments, she is remembered for inventing the brassiere in an attempt to liberate women from the constrictions of whalebone corsets. Her life in Paris ended when her troubled husband shot a lover in a New York hotel room then killed himself. Caresse went on to involve herself in peace and pacifist issues until she died at her Italian castle in 1970.
