Contemporary ownership signature and bookplate of James Schott. Philadelphia directories of this period list him as a merchant. Armroyd's work is the most comprehensive contemporary source information on the early railroads and canals in the Untied States, giving dates of construction, length of each section, and plans for proposed railroads and canals.
