Soft cover. Condition: Near Fine. First Edition. It is my regret that someone better qualified than myself has not written the history of Marlag and Milag Nord, for as will become apparent in the story, I enjoyed its hospitality for less than two years. So although I have attempted to convey in outline some historical facts for the record, my main concern has been to give impressions of my personal experience of life behind barbed-wire fences as background to the rest of my narrative. Another difficulty I experienced was that of conveying adequately the sense of the initail shock of imprisonment yet elation at being alive when shipmates were dead, and to express the feelings of gloom, depression at bad news, boredom, impotence and sheer physical misery that was inevitably woven into the fabric of our lives. I also want to pay tribute to that splendid body of men. The Merhant Navy, by recording, as well as truthfully as it lies within my powers, some impression of their steadfast courage in adversity and their achievements in creating, not only a mere modus vivende, but a mini civilization in a desert place. Illustrated(We carry a wide selection of titles in The Arts, Theology, History, Politics, Social and Physical Sciences. academic and scholarly books and Modern First Editions etc.).
