First Edition
Hard Cover. Condition: Very Good binding. Folio. [16] pp., illus. First trade edition. As issued, backed in cloth with pictorial paper over boards. Some minor fraying to the spine ends and corners; contents are extremely bright and clean but for one minor spot of discoloration on the recto of the final leaf. An unusually nice copy of this, the first trade edition of the first book from Esther Averill and Lila Stanley's expatriate Domino Press, and the first English-language children's book illustrated by the Caldecott Medal-winning Russian-born artist Feodor Rojanovsky. Beautiful five-color lithographic illustrations throughout.
