First edition. voice line. Leather backed paper printed boards (green). Oblong (16x25cm). pp. 400. Very Good/Ex-Lib. Rebacked spine and corners in acid free J. Hewitt washable black cloth and new headbands and marbled endpapers. Front edge ploughed and last page repaired with archival tape. Paper covers worn but readable. Only library markings are tiny red stamps on first two pages. Baker succeeded Mason as teacher of music in the Boston public schools 1841-7 and at the same time was president of the Handel and Haydn Society; soloist and composer of 3 cantatas; editor of Boston Music Journal; founded Boston Music School (1851-68). Perkins was elder brother of Henry Southwick Perkins and Julius Edson Perkins and editor of over 40 songbooks.
