Paper cover with colour illus of two kids and a dog illustrated by Mrs Vernon Thomas, 220pp, B&W photos and illus with some colour illustrtions for the ads. A women's magazine from the 1930s with articles on health and beauty, fashion, architecture and furnishings, recipes, children, poems and fiction. Possibly of most interest to us in this age of digital media are the ads, with (for us) surprisingly lengthly backstories used to sell mouthwash, linoluem flooring, tooth paste, giving us a glimpse into an age when people had time to read. Cover artwork of a small child blowing out her birthday candles by Jessie Willcox Smith, interior illustrations by James Montgomery Flagg and many others. The May, 1934 issue of Good Housekeeping magazine represents Jessie Willcox Smith's final magazine cover for this, or any peridocial. In failing health, she died twelve months later.
